Jan's
work on Faith and the Environment
Jan
is a practising Western Buddhist (Friends of the Western Buddhist
Order) with a particular interest in the links between faiths, environment
and social justice. She is a Trustee of the Faith-based
Regeneration Network, the leading national multi-faith network
for community development, regeneration and social action. She is
an associate of the Community
Development Foundation (CDF), a non-departmental public
body sponsored by Communities and Local Government.
Jan
represents the London Buddhist Centre (LBC) on Tower Hamlets Interfaith
Forum (THIFF). She is on the Forum's Steering Group and regularly
represents them at community events and specific faiths / multifaith
celebrations/memorials. She is one of the Buddhist Centre representatives
to London Citizens' Telco, the East London Communities Organisation,
a broad-based citizen organising movement renowned for its pioneering
work on the Living Wage Campaign. Jan has supported various environmental
initiatives within the Buddhist community and, as a member of the
local Fairtrade Group, has helped raise awareness in local places
of worship.
The
Interfaith Forum works closely with the local authority and in 2008/9
Jan helped support the Borough's community consultative work in
developing a Religion & Belief Equality Scheme. Tower Hamlets
is one of a handful of authorities meeting Level 5, the highest
standard of equalities practice.
She
is currently involved in working on another partnership project
involving the Interfaith Forum. Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust,
in association with Barts & the London NHS, commissioned the
Forum to produce a directory of local religious, belief and faith-based
organisations, and information on healthcare and spiritual needs
for end-of-life care in the Borough.
Jan

and the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management's
(CIWEM) emerging Faiths and Environment Network.
