- Action
by local communities in support of sustainable development: Guidance
on effective ways to make a difference (A short checklist
produced in February 2006)
- "Building Our
Own Futures" -This report highlights the value of local
action in protecting the environment and delivering sustainable
development across Europe. It points out that politicians consistently
fail to provide the support and conditions for such local action
to flourish and that this is one reason why national and international
policy is often poorly implemented. 'Building our own
futures' is based on 14 case studies from all parts of
the wider European region from Siberian Russia and Tadjikistan
to Germany and the UK. Each shows how NGOs are playing a key role
in making sustainable development happen. The report describes
eight different ways in which local action takes place and looks
at how these different approaches can lead to stronger community
engagement as well as environmental improvement.
